Il fico strangolatore
[ITA] Il workshop, della durata di 5 giorni, ha previsto la realizzazione di una scatola e alcuni artefatti di carta e di un pieghevole, creati a partire da un capitolo del libro Atlante di botanica poetica di Francis Hallé. Il capitolo in questione descrive la pianta del fico strangolatore. A partire dal concetto di wunderkammer, o cabina della meraviglie, cioè raccoglitori di oggetti straordinari tipici del Cinquecento e Seicento, abbiamo deciso di organizzare l’interno della scatola suddividendolo in piccoli scomparti dove inserire i singoli artefatti. Questi rappresentano i punti e gli elementi principali della narrazione di Hallé e sono (da sx a dx, dall’altro in basso) la minuscola vespa che impollina il fico, il frutto stesso, il ramo con la foglia e infine il momento in cui il fico strangola un’altra pianta per poter vivere. Il pieghevole mette insieme tutti questi elementi: si sviluppa su un foglio A3 e può essere letto sia come piccolo libro che nella sua totalità, completamente aperto. La carta scelta per il rivestimento della scatola fa riferimento all’estetica della wunderkammer.
[ENG] The 5-day workshop involved the creation of a box, some paper artifacts and a foldable A3, made out of a chapter in Francis Hallé's book Atlas of Poetic Botany. The chapter in question describes the strangler fig plant. Starting from the concept of wunderkammer, or cabinet of wonders, typical of the Sixteenth and Seventeenth centuries where extraordinary objects were collected and gathered, we decided to organize the inside of the box by dividing it into small compartments where we then inserted the single artifacts. These artifacts represent the main points and elements of Hallé's narrative and are (from left to right, from top to bottom) the tiny wasp that pollinates the fig, the fruit itself, the branch with the leaf and finally the moment when the fig strangles another plant in order to live. The foldable brings all these elements together: it is spread over an A3 sheet and can be read either as a small book or in its entirety, completely open. The paper chosen to cover the box refers to the aesthetics of the wunderkammer.
